What CBYD Does
One free call before the first shovel.
A free service. The law in Connecticut. The smart way to dig.
Call Before You Dig (CBYD) is Connecticut's free one-call notification system. Whether you're a contractor breaking ground on a job site or a homeowner setting a fence post, contacting 811 before you dig is the law. It's also the simplest way to protect yourself, your crew, your property, and your neighbors from striking a buried utility line.
1. Submit a Ticket
At least two business days before you dig — online at cbyd.com or by calling 811.
2. CBYD Notifies
Every utility with lines in your dig area is alerted automatically.
3. Locators Mark
Trained locators arrive on-site and mark the buried lines with paint and flags.
4. Dig Safely
Work carefully around the marks so every utility line stays undisturbed.
Why the Senator's Cup
Same line. Different Ground.
On a half-mile oval, the painted line across the asphalt is the start-finish line. On a Connecticut lawn or job site, a painted mark means a utility runs right below — gas, electric, water, sewer, fiber, communications — located and flagged because someone called 811 first. One line settles the race. The other keeps the dig from becoming a disaster.
2007
CBYD begins advertising at Stafford Speedway.
2012
Race sponsorships begin for a rotating slate of events.
2026
CBYD continues its sponsorship of the Senator's Cup, nearly two decades in.
Putting our name on the Senator's Cup gets the 811 message in front of the same families, contractors, and excavators who fill those stands every week — the same people who need to call before they dig.
