CBYD Announces Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament to Benefit MitoCure
Golfers to tee off August 18 at Indian Hill Country Club in support of Mitochondrial Disease research
CHESHIRE, CT, July 29, 2026 — CBYD will host its second annual CBYD Charity Golf Tournament on August 18, 2026, at Indian Hill Country Club in Newington, Connecticut. The event continues CBYD's commitment to supporting communities across the state.
Last year's inaugural tournament brought together sponsors and teams in support of the Alzheimer's Association and House of Heroes. The 2025 tournament generated $8,500 in support of the two charities. This year, the tournament will benefit MitoCure, a fellow Cheshire nonprofit working to find a cure for Mitochondrial Disease.
MitoCure has been working toward a cure for Mitochondrial Disease since 2000, when Bill and Sandy Cunningham founded the organization following their daughter Kelly's diagnosis. Kelly passed away in 2005, and her parents have continued the fight in her memory ever since. In the years since, MitoCure has directed roughly $3 million to research efforts, a figure made possible by an all-volunteer board and private contributions that cover the organization's operating costs, allowing every donated dollar to go straight to the search for a cure.
"This cause hits close to home, both for the Cunningham family and for us here in Cheshire," said Chris Tralli, CBYD Board President. "What makes MitoCure remarkable is that every dollar raised goes straight to research. We are proud to bring our community together for a day of golf that puts real support behind that mission."
— Chris Tralli, CBYD Board President
The tournament will feature a day of golf, prizes, and a post-round dinner in support of MitoCure's research efforts.
Teams can register now at birdease.com/cbydcharitygolfevent.
The event takes place at Indian Hill Country Club, 111 Golf St, Newington, CT 06111.
About CBYD
Call Before You Dig, Inc. (CBYD) is Connecticut's free one-call notification system that helps protect people, property, and essential services during excavation projects. By contacting 811 before digging, homeowners and contractors can identify the location of underground utilities such as gas, electric, water, and communications lines. This process helps prevent injuries, service disruptions, and costly damage. Through education and outreach, CBYD promotes safe digging practices and helps protect the state's critical infrastructure.
About MitoCure
MitoCure is the public face of the Foundation for a Cure for Mitochondrial Disease, Inc., a Cheshire, Connecticut nonprofit founded by Bill and Sandy Cunningham in 2000 after their daughter Kelly was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease. Kelly passed away in 2005, and her parents have carried the work forward so that other families might be spared the same loss. The organization educates communities about Mitochondrial Disease and raises funds for the most promising research toward a cure. Because all board members are volunteers and operating costs are covered by private contributions, 100 percent of donations go directly to research.
