CBYD Charity Golf Tournament Brings Community Together in Support of MitoCure
A successful second annual tournament highlights generosity, camaraderie and a shared commitment to giving back
Call Before You Dig, Inc. (CBYD) brought golfers, sponsors and community supporters together on August 18 for its Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Indian Hill Country Club in Newington, raising funds in support of MitoCure and its mission to advance research toward a cure for mitochondrial disease.
Beautiful weather set the stage for an afternoon of golf, friendly competition and community connection. Teams took to the course for a noon shotgun start, with contests and prizes adding to the fun throughout the round before players, sponsors and supporters gathered for a post-tournament dinner.
This year’s tournament benefited MitoCure, the public face of the Foundation for a Cure for Mitochondrial Disease, Inc. The Cheshire-based nonprofit was founded by Bill and Sandy Cunningham after their daughter Kelly was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, and its all-volunteer board allows donations to be directed to research.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s tournament such a success,” said Chris Tralli, CBYD Board President. “From our generous sponsors and golfers to our volunteers, donors and everyone who joined us for the day, the support we received was tremendous. It was wonderful to see so many people come together, enjoy the event and help us support MitoCure and the important work they are doing.”
MitoCure founder William Cunningham joined attendees for dinner and thanked CBYD, along with the event’s sponsors, golfers and supporters, for helping advance the organization’s work. His remarks gave guests a firsthand perspective on the importance of mitochondrial disease research and the difference community support can make.
The evening also featured live music from Jeff Przech, who provided an acoustic soundtrack for the post-round gathering. Performing a selection of classic rock favorites, Jeff’s guitar and vocals helped create a relaxed atmosphere as golfers traded stories from the course and enjoyed dinner.
While the tournament offered plenty of competition and camaraderie, its larger purpose was bringing people together around a cause that matters. CBYD extends its thanks to the sponsors, golfers, raffle donors, volunteers, staff and supporters whose contributions made the event possible. CBYD is also especially grateful to the golf professional staff at Indian Hill Country Club, as well as the dedicated team at Casa Mia on the Hill, for helping make the tournament another seamless and enjoyable event.
The tournament also reflects CBYD’s broader commitment to serving and protecting communities throughout Connecticut. That mission includes reminding homeowners, contractors and anyone planning to excavate that safe digging begins before the first shovel hits the ground. CBYD is Connecticut’s free one-call notification system, helping to protect underground utilities and the community.
